We hope you will join James G. Lavery, Director, Bureau of Health Professions Licensure, Massachusetts Department of Public Health as he addresses MA Health Council member questions and provides an update on Massachusetts’ Drug Stewardship Program.

  • A Drug Stewardship Program collects, secures, transports and safely disposes of unwanted drugs.
  • You can file, finance, and operate plans either individually or as a group of manufacturers. A Drug Stewardship Program must be fully financed by the filing drug manufacturer or group of manufacturers.
  • Who needs to file? You must file a plan with the Department if both of the following applies to you:
    • You are an entity that manufactures one or more controlled substances under a U.S. Food and Drug Administration manufacturer's license (This excludes institutional pharmacies, as defined in M.G.L. c. 112, § 39D, and wholesalers licensed pursuant to M.G.L. c. 112, § 36B)
    • You sell or distribute any “covered drug” to consumers in the Commonwealth, whether directly or through a wholesaler, retailer, or other agent
  • Learn how wholesalers and virtual manufacturers are affected, and more.
