Look who made Boston Magazine's Power 2008: Extended Power List … |
"Under the leadership of Susan Servais, Executive Director, the Massachusetts Health Council has continued to grow and expand in its ability to advocate for policies that
affect access to quality and cost effective health care for all the citizens of the commonwealth. A non partisan, voluntary, membership organization composed of key
health and other concerned organizations and businesses, the Council provides a forum for a variety of views concerning issues and strategies facing decision makers in the
health care arena. The Council has a long standing history in playing an active role in some of the major health care initiatives in Mass., such as the use of fluoridation in
water. Ms. Servais is a visible presence in providing the views of the Council, be it testifying before committees at the state house, unveiling the Common Health for the Commonwealth
report, or assisting legislators in visiting the issue of health disparities." Ruth B. Smith, Ph.D. "As Chairman of the Committee on Public Health, I have had the pleasure to work with
Susan on a number of pressing issues including eliminating racial health disparities, improving health care quality while containing costs, and most recently tackling the
problem of providing better nutritional choices for our kids at school. Susan was instrumental in the successful release of the Commission to Eliminate Racial and Ethnic
Health Disparities final report which was released last summer during the National Conference of State Legislature's Annual Meeting in Boston. This year, Susan and the
Massachusetts Health Council cosponsored our Kick Start Nutrition Rally and have taken a lead role in passing school nutrition legislation.
"Susan is always willing and able to provide my staff and myself with important insights and support and is an asset to the organizations the Massachusetts Health Council
represents. Her extraordinary knowledge of our state's public health indicators as well as her rapport and ability to motivate and mobilize her membership have made her an
indispensable ally in the states' efforts to promote responsible public health policy. "I have been consistently impressed by Susan's leadership skills and her willingness to
take on cutting edge public health issues. What is more, I have not only been lucky enough to work with her, I have come to count on her and call her a friend. Peter J. Koutoujian, Chairman
